Zoka is the latest culinary addition to the bustling and popular Queens Road in the Clarendon Park area of Leicester.
They serve up Japanese takeaway in the form of a range of macro bowls, with a focus on health, wellness and community. The logo itself was inspired/based on the "maneki-neko" or lucky cat, a Japanese figurine which is believed to bring good luck to the owner. In addition to cat silhouette, the kanji letterform for health features prominently in the logo. The typography in the logo is also inspired by the brush strokes of Japanese calligraphy, balancing the logo firmly between a contemporary and traditional aesthetic.
Horizontal format logo -
The horizontal variation of the logo is ideal for situations where vertical space is limited. This version of the logo also features the Zoka brand tagline, "Wellness Revolution".
Typography only logo -
I wanted the "Zoka" typography logo to have a Japanese woodblock stamp feel to it, almost like it is being used to sign a work of art. This adds a traditional element to the branding, this will be used on packaging, uniforms or situations where the full logo is not suitable.
Alt logo with sub-heading -
I also designed a version of the main logo with the addition of the brand tagline, "Wellness Revolution". This logo adds additional context and insight into what the brand stands for and further showcases their focus on wellness and healthy, nutrient rich food.
Brand pack -
In addition to designing various variants of their new logo, I also created a short brand pack for the brand, which includes; logo usage guides for each logo variant, typography guide, a limited brand colour palette and mock-ups of the logo in situ on uniforms, signs etc.
