Kappa
As a lover of all things Mythology and Folkore, I am embarking on a personal project to illustrate all of my favourite mythical creatures and figures from various cultures. Starting with the Kappa - the Japanese turtle/humanoids who dwell along river crossings and terrorise passers-by.
Tengu
The second in a series of Japanese Folklore illustrations, the mythical mountain dwelling Tengu. Often characterised in modern times as a red faced, anthropomorphised being with an extremely large nose - I prefer the earlier depictions of a more bird-like Tengu. They are considered demons by some, low level gods by others, but I like to think of them as guardians of the mountains and forests
